The big picture: • 18.7M people (largest in Central America) • Median age: 24 • 70% of the workforce is under 30 • 55,000+ BPO workers, $737M+ in annual revenue • Sector grew 17% in 5 years A mature talent infrastructure built for US clients. At about 30%-70% less than the cost of a US hire. 1. The time zone is unbeatable. Central Standard Time year-round. No daylight saving. Same clock as Chicago, Dallas, and Houston in winter. 1-2 hours off the East Coast. Never more. 2. Major US companies already operate at scale. Walmart has operations in Guatemala City. Citi has run corporate banking there since 1974. ExxonMobil maintains ops across the Caribbean and Guatemala region. 3. The universities are stronger than people realize. Universidad de San Carlos was founded in 1676. The 4th oldest university in the Americas. 170,000+ university students nationwide. Top high schools graduate students with BOTH a US Diploma AND the Guatemalan Bachillerato. 4. Flights are fast and cheap. Direct from Houston, Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, LA, JFK, and Newark. Houston to Guatemala City: 2 hrs 55 min nonstop. Closer than NYC to LA. 5. The cost savings work without being exploitative. A Guatemalan engineer earning $5K/month USD makes 3-5x the local rate. Strong retention. Real quality of life. 6. "The Land of Eternal Spring." 1,500m elevation. 64-82°F year-round. Low humidity. No hurricanes, monsoons, or tsunamis knocking out the city for days. 7. Cultural affinity with the US runs deep. Heavy consumption of US film, music, and TV. NFL and NBA have strong followings. American Christianity (Catholic and Evangelical) is dominant.
