Don't you fear it gives one more hold on software development from a company known for its past monopolistic ambitions? That's what refrain me from using typescript for example

If you're not using
@TypeScript, IMHO it's your loss. Microsoft has proven itself to me that they truly believe in open source through projects like@Code and many more. -
I think they go where their shareholders interests are. I'll jump in ts when there is a standard with a governing body like js and more than one source for the transpiler.

I mean, I don't think the shareholders had anything to do with the 180 MS pulled in the past ten years regarding open source. They have invested a considerable amount into the community. At some point we should give them the benefit of the doubt.

Won't this end up as a closed loop though? To fund OSS, you need outside money. How does this achieve that? As for the 2x matching, that seems easily gameable. I can just send my friend 5K and ask him to send it straight back. 0 cost, 5K-5K loss for GitHub. Sibyl attacks too.
