unable to connect to GitHub using visual studio 2019

Signing in to GitHub via Visual Studio's interface (text fields and whatnot) is not visible. Only "Sign in with your browser" is available.

VS is not able to connect to github account. It says requires authentication. When I click on Sign in with browser, a link opens to a blank page with page url "localhost..."
