    We’ve had odd Thanksgivings before, like this one from 78 years ago. If you didn’t know this, that’s a decent sign that this year will also fade into memory—something young people can ask us about when we are old. Assuming you’re not yet. 😊

    Americans celebrate their first wartime Thanksgiving this year: sugar is rationed across the USA, & many families are unable to gather due to gas rationing or military service.

    In the We Know Nothing About COVID vein, here's a study showing relative efficacy of cloth masks for filtering aerosols. There are studies saying the opposite, so it's not like we have a consensus yet, but I think my light-up mask would test well here, so BIAS CONFIRMED.

    We started studying cloth masks in March. Preprint now at Take-home: Cloth masks are not an N95, but they work reasonably well for aerosols 1-2 microns and larger, which is the size that we think mostly mediates transmission. See thread. /1

    We know next to nothing about COVID. I keep saying the documentaries that get made a decade hence will be great. In the mean time, here is some responsible-seeming science on immunity and re-infection. It is encouraging!

    Scientific studies have shown that it’s possible to get reinfected with COVID-19, but also that immunity could last for years. How can that be and what does it mean for the hope we’re putting in vaccines? The answer is that it’s complicated…but potentially promising. A thread.

    The sounds are beautiful inasmuch as they are nostalgic. The visualization, though, is just remarkable. There's some value in seeing the frequency domain. There's no robust sense in which this is how the world "is," but it's a such useful abstraction in so many ways.

    It's the first reply to the tweet that's the best LOL here, but also the bathrooms are worth thinking about. If you've read Lewis's That Hideous Strength, tell me the N.I.C.E. wouldn't design bathrooms like that. I think you know they would.
