This past Monday, we had our PyLadies meetup at Anaconda, Inc. office, with an in-person workshop by Dawn Gibson Wages on the model context protocol (how to help your LLM do more by safely connecting it to external tools). We also shared thoughts on how we’ve been using Claude and other AI tools in our workflows and our next PyLadies ATX meetup will be on Thursday, May 28 at 6 PM CDT.

Now that the dust has settled and I've slept, every time I think about the PyTexas Conference this year all I can do is smile. This was a monumental year for us for a number of reasons. First, not many conferences make it to 20. Running a conference is hard. There are so many moving pieces, things to organize, issues that pop up, and all that happens behind the scenes often completely unnoticed by the attendees. There were years I didn't know if we'd continue (ie Pandemic) but I'm glad we pushed through that and are stronger than ever. Second, the turnout rate this year blew me away. We had a 92% checkin rate this year. That's wild. The largest I've seen in my 5 years running the conference was 84%. The venue was packed with folks coming to network and learn more about Python. Third, our "First Time Attendee" metric shrank again this year. My interpretation of this is it's actually striking a good balance. Over the last few years we've gone from a 70% First Time Attendee rate to now 59%. To me, this says that we're actually building a community folks want to be a part of. A community folks return to. This is what I hoped for when I started this year ago, and the proof is there. All this to say, it was a great year. And the most interesting thing is, I did less this year than I ever have in the past. Why? Because of my organizers. I don't know how I could ever do this without them. It was fantastic to watch people step up, own projects, and deliver. Laura always tells me I should delegate more, and this year is the first year I feel like I did a good job of it. Thank you to Laura Santamaria, Kevin Horn, Brad Brown, Jesse Flippen, Kassandra Keeton, SEP, Josh Schneider, David Antonini, Joshua Cannon, Jacob Neeley. Your dedication and commitment is greatly appreciated.
