The outpouring of support for affected teammates was a strong reminder of the strong community we’ve built and just how many deeply talented and valued people make up this community. Those that were let go weren’t just corporate headcount. They were valued contributors in meetings and on projects, friends you could vent to, people’s desks you could stop by for a midday chat. We lost a lot of talented individuals and next week is going to be harder coming back to an emptier office and deactivated Slack accounts. My thoughts are with those who were let go. If your company is hiring, please let me know so that I can pass it along to these talented individuals.

In many of those roles, I led businesses without ever experiencing the product firsthand. At Deel, that distance disappears. Deel runs on Deel. We are our own toughest client, with 7,000+ team members in 110 countries across 28 time zones. The largest fully remote company in the world. With People under my remit, I operate in the same environment as our customers every day. I experience the workflows, the friction points, and the moments where the platform builds trust. What stands out most is how deeply this shapes our culture. This approach lives in how Deel operates every day. It keeps feedback immediate, standards high, and accountability shared. Across languages, time zones, and backgrounds, trust holds everything together. The system works because people rely on it, and on each other, every day. Part of what I've committed to in this role is staying close, to the team, to our customers, to the real conversations. That has taken me from our Global Leadership Offsite in Dubai, to the launch of Deel's Global Hiring Report and press conversations in London (where I experienced grabbing my first “scotch egg”), and a number of stops in between. Each conversation reinforces the same idea: the way Deel is built internally is inseparable from what Deel offers the world. We are infrastructure for global work, and we demonstrate how it works every day. That's the culture. And after 100 days, I can say with confidence: it's the real thing. Still learning. Still traveling. Grateful and proud to be part of it.

What stands out most from the past few years is how much I grew, both personally and professionally, largely thanks to the amazing people I worked with and the clear values that shaped how we built and worked together. Together, we worked through the usual challenges of growth, an acquisition, the shift between pre- and post-COVID working environments, and the early days of bringing GenAI into the product. Before jumping into my next adventure, I’m taking a few months to recharge. I’m spending time settling into our new home, doing some light traveling, catching up on reading, and making progress on a few side projects, serious and unserious alike. I’m also using this window to reconnect with people I’ve crossed paths with over the years. If we haven’t caught up in a while, I’d love to change that. There’s something about an in-person conversation that’s hard to beat, so I’m happy to meet in the Bay Area (or elsewhere if my travels line up).

Three things I keep hearing from startup founders right now: 1. Senior engineering hires are taking 3–4 months to close 2. Offshore agencies keep sending junior engineers labeled as senior 3. Even when a great candidate appears, budget or timing kills the deal GrowRoster exists for exactly these problems. If you're thinking about investing in syndications, read this book first. "The Hands Off Investor" by Brian Burke changed how I evaluate deals. Before this book, I was looking at syndications like most people do: projected IRR, cash-on-cash return, maybe the market. That's it. But Burke breaks down what actually matters: How to evaluate operators (track record, alignment, communication style). How to read offering memorandums and spot red flags. What questions to ask before you wire $50K-$100K. How to understand capital structures, waterfalls, and preferred returns. What makes a deal actually good vs. just marketed well. This book taught me how to think like an investor, not a gambler. I've used these frameworks to evaluate every single deal we've brought to our investors. And I still go back to it. If you're a high earner looking to get into alternative investments, this is required reading. It'll save you from making expensive mistakes.

The job market for senior frontend engineers is genuinely weird right now. Companies want Staff-level output. They post Senior IC roles. They budget for mid-level comp. I've been navigating this for a while. Wells Fargo, LendingClub, Castlight Health. Regulated industries, consumer-facing products, real stakes. The work has always been Staff-level. The titles and comp haven't always matched. What I've noticed: the gap between what companies need and what they're willing to call it is wider than ever. And the engineers caught in that gap aren't junior. They're experienced people who got expensive for companies that decided experience was a line item to cut. But there's something else happening on the hiring side too. The bar for "the right candidate" keeps moving. Six interview rounds. Algorithmic take-homes for roles that are 90% component architecture and API integration. Candidates who clear every hurdle get passed on because someone "felt more senior." Meanwhile the role sits open for months. Perfect is the enemy of good. And right now, a lot of teams are so focused on finding the unicorn that they're missing the person who would actually ship the work. The interview signal and the working reality are not the same thing. The best engineers I've worked with weren't the ones who crushed the whiteboard. They were the ones who asked the right questions before writing a line of code. Hiring managers and recruiters: where do you think the bar is miscalibrated right now?

Stripe is quietly building its own Layer 1 blockchain called Tempo with Paradigm Fortune spotted the project through a now-deleted job listing. Tempo is being built for one purpose: making stablecoin payments fast and easy. The team is small, just five people right now, and they are focused on high-speed transactions. Tempo will work with Ethereum’s smart contracts, so developers can use the tools they already know. This means they will not need to learn an entirely new system to start building. Stripe already owns Bridge for stablecoin infrastructure and Privy for wallet tech. Tempo gives them the last piece of the puzzle so they can control the entire payments stack from stablecoin creation to settlement on their own chain. With the new GENIUS Act creating clear rules for stablecoins in the US, the timing could not be better. Stripe seems ready to make stablecoin payments part of everyday business without relying on other networks. Bottom line: Stripe is not just joining crypto. It is aiming to own the rails stablecoins run on. Keeping an eye on this 👀

💡If you don’t know how to tell the story in your resume, you’re leaving salary and opportunity on the table. Learn to connect the dots. I was recently helping a friend prep for an interview. His talk track was solid, but his resume didn’t explain why he chose each role. A hiring manager would see the wins, not the trajectory. So we got to work. The rule: for every role, answer three questions — 1) What did I want to learn? 2) What did I accomplish? 3) What did I need next? — Then stitch roles so each is the natural step from the previous “what I needed next,” and finish by explaining why the one you want is the logical next step now. Result: your experience sounds like a clear career trajectory, not a list of wins. For my friend, reframing his bullets this way made his answers feel purposeful and connected in the interview. It also preempted the hiring manager’s next question: Why do you want to join us? Why it works. 🔷 Shows intent - each move is purposeful. 🔷 Lowers hiring risk - managers can visualize how you will add value 🔷 Improves recall - stories stick; numbers don’t. Tech professionals love RSUs. They feel like free money. Until they don’t. I was talking to a senior backend engineer last week who told me: “Arthur, between my salary and RSUs, I’m set. I don’t really need a financial plan.” So, I asked him one question: “If your RSUs dropped 30% tomorrow… what changes in your life?” He went silent. Because here’s the truth most people in tech never hear: RSUs are NOT a financial plan. They’re a bonus that behaves like the weather. Some years it’s sunshine. Some years it’s a hurricane. But it is never a stable foundation.
